Mr Pen: Italix ‘Chaplain’s Tankard’
The Italix range of pens (all of which have somewhat eccentric names) are produced by a British company called Mr Pen, using bodies produced in China and Jowo nib units from Germany. As such, they are relatively inexpensive. This model comes in a wide range of nibs (as the name suggests, focusing on italic styles). This example has a medium cursive nib which differs from an italic nib by having rounded edges which don’t catch the paper as some italic nibs can do – traditionally italic nibs have a very chiselled shape. (This type of nib is more often described as ‘stub’.) However, as with most italic nibs, the writing face has little tipping material, though there is some on the very top.
